September 2004 Collector´s Club
1998 Gordon Brothers Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Magnum
I don´t think we´ve ever had a magnum in the club before, and this is a
nice place to start. The wine is aged quite nicely, and is quite delicious - I
believe it´s one of the last vintages Marie-Eve Gilla (now of Forgeron Cellars
in Walla Walla) produced for the winery; it certainly has her style about it.
We have a reasonable quantity left for $25.00. It´s read to drink, and
will go well with your usual Cabernet meals: steak, roasts, really good barbeque,
etc.
2000 Adea Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
We´ve been selling this vintage for a while now, through a couple of changes in
distribution, for around $28.00. It´s an Oregon Pinot that´s worth
the price, dark and delicious. Apparently, we´re in for another
distributor change - the current one closed it out to us, with the remaining stock
going for $19.75. It was just a bit hard for me to resist! It´s
drinking well right now, with some time left to it. Try it with pork roast.
We have about a case or so left.
2003 Syncline Alder Ridge Vineyard Roussanne
Once in a while, I think Syncline winemaker James Mantone owns this club. I
can´t think of too many of his wines that haven´t made it into one club
or another. I also can´t think of too many wineries with this high a
batting average (does Ichiro make wines?), or this good a price-to-value ratio.
This yummy wine runs $19.75, and, as usual, is somewhat limited. It´s
pretty much ready to drink. I know I couldn´t keep my hands off it!
2002 Boudreaux Cellars Icicle Canyon Red
Introducing another great Washington winery! Winemaker Rob Newsom operates out
of Leavenworth (about eight miles out, to be accurate). Fitting, since his
former occupation is as Alpine guide, leading a couple expeditions to the Himalayas.
This wine - his other releases are in this month´s Washington Wine Club -
is a Sangiovese-based blend, lighter and well-balanced, with nice sweet fruit.
Enjoy it over the next year. It´s $17.00.
2003 Finca El Portillo Mendoza Chardonnay
We´ll close this month´s clubs with a couple Chardonnays. This one
is from Argentina, and continues the upswing in quality from the country - at least,
the quality we see. There has always been good wine from Argentina, but for
years it was consumed there. Now we get a crack at it. This runs $8.50,
and there´s plenty available. It´s ready to drink.
2002 Domaine Dalicieux Macon-Fuisse
Two Chardonnays in one club? I´ll admit to that being somewhat unusual!
This, at $7.00, was just too irresistible to turn down. It´s
drinking well right now, and is a good example of what the southern district of
Burgundy was up to in 02. Enjoy!
