1999 Chateau Gloria St-Julien
A Bordeaux?  For $25.00?  Why not - after all, we were able to come up with a Grand Cru Burgundy, weren´t we?  The lovely thing about the great 2000 vintage is that there´s still lots of the excellent 1999s in the pipeline, and the price is dropping on ‘em.  This cabernet sauvignon-based wine still has years left to it - like, around twenty - and it is really just too tight to drink right now.  So please, give it some age!  And would you believe there´s a goodly amount left?  Stock up - I did!

2001 Forgeron Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
Winemaker Marie-Eve Gilla crafts excellent wines, and this Cabernet is a great example.  Her wines tend to be elegant, powerful, and structured - something of a hat trick for winemakers!  This wine will age for another five years, and will go well with prime rib or other hearty fare.  It used to be $30; the winery dropped the price as they´d really like to start selling the equally excellent 2002!  It´s $19.75, and at this price, there´s not all that much left.  We also have a bit of their outstanding Chardonnay left, as well as several other wines.

2003 Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc
2003 Henri Bourgeois Quincy

Now here´s something I don´t get to try every month: two wines made from the same grape, by the same producer, from two separate hemispheres!  Now we can really see what difference terroir makes.  Sancerre-based winemaker Jean-Marie Bourgeois told my wife of his New Zealand experiment several years ago (she translates for him when he comes to town), and I´ve been eagerly anticipating this first release of his Marlborough wine.  He felt that New Zealand Sauv blancs were of excellent quality, quite high praise indeed, and wanted to see what he could do in the region; so he bought vineyard land there about four years ago.  He also makes the Quincy, a small appellation just outside Sancerre.  This will be an excellent comparison.  Both are ready to drink.  The Clos Henri is $25.00 with microscopic amounts left, and the Quincy is $15.00, with a good quantity left around.  Enjoy them with shellfish.

2002 Mount-Saint-Vincent Vin de Pays d´Oc Syrah
I´m having trouble believing this outstanding wine is $7.00.  It is an excellent expression of Languedoc Syrah; earthy, lively, and a great food wine.  Pair it with game.   There´s not too much left, and we´ve got it.   It´ll hold for another three years or so, perhaps a bit longer.

2003 Tres Ojos Calatayud Garnacha
Would you believe we go down a dollar for this outstanding Grenache from Spain?  We couldn´t at a tasting recently, and I´ve heard reports that one person was fooled into believing it was an $18.00 wine.  It´s tasty, and, best of all, there´s a ton of it available.  It´s light, with great fruit and spicy white pepper characteristics.  Try with roast chicken or tapenade.  Or save it for a spring barbeque - it goes really well with smoked meats.
