February 2006 Collector´s Club
2003 Stevens Black Tongue Syrah
Syrah can be fairly palate-staining, and it would be hard to find a darker, more concentrated
wine than Tim Stevens´ latest offering. Made from all Yakima Valley fruit,
this wine needs either a bit of time in your cellar or a whole lot of air should you open it
early. Match this with something with lots of spice and fat. Maybe save it for a
future ribs-and-Super Bowl feed? It´s $28.00, and there´s a good amount left.
We also have his Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in stock.
2003 Melness New Zealand Riesling
New Zealand has built it´s reputation as a world wine power on Sauvignon Blanc and,
more recently, on Pinot Noir. They also do outstanding Riesling, as this wine
attests. Good sweet fruit and good acidity are hallmarks of great Riesling, and this
wine has both. It´ll hold well for several years. It´s $18.00, and
there´s some left around. Match it with Asian cuisine.
2003 Seven Hills Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
This is an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon, from one of Walla Walla´s longest operating
wineries (OK, they actually started in the Oregon side of the valley, but you get my point!)
This wine will hold well for several years in your cellar - most of winemaker Casey
McClellan´s wines do - and will deliver a powerful, fruit-driven punch upon opening.
There´s a good amount left for $24.00. Tasty stuff, indeed.
2004 Grande Cassagne Costieres de Nimes Grenache-Syrah
I´ve put a number of different wines from this outstanding southern French winery in
the clubs over the years, a tribute to the winery´s consistency from vintage to
vintage. One of importer Robert Kacher´s collection of wineries around the
ancient city of Nimes, they make spectacular reserve wines as well, some of which are in
stock at absurd prices. It´s $9.75.
2003 Mas Carlot Marsanne-Roussane
Another of Bobby Kacher´s wines from the Costieres de Nimes, this features some
delicious ripe fruit and a nice balance. Perfect for those sunny days that Are
Just Around The Corner, yes? There´s a small amount more available.
It´s also $9.75.
NV La Chaussynette
This is, essentially, a Cotes-du-Rhone, blended across several vintages for a nice low price
of $8.00. It´s an easy drinker, and matches well with pretty much anything.
There´s a fair amount around. Enjoy!
