Specialty Club May 2004
1996 Famille Jaboulet Crozes-Hermitage Cuvee Speciale
This once-in-a-lifetime wine was made from Jaboulet´s oldest parcels in the
Thalabert vineyard of Crozes-Hermitage. Robert Parker calls this the finest
wine he´s ever tried from this appellation. It´s made from 100%
Syrah, and is more comparable to an Hermitage than anything else - for $30.00.
There were tiny amounts of this made, about 5,000 cases for the world, and it´s
at its peak right now, and will hold for another ten years with proper cellaring.
By the way, Parker gave it 92 points.
2002 Kistler Les Noisetiers Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
As long as we´re talking Parker, we might as well add in his favorite
California Chardonnay producer, no? It´s nice to be able to get one of
the single vineyard wines in enough quantity to provide ‘em to the club!
Kistler is one of the most consistent high-quality (and high-priced - this
one´s $58.00) chardonnay producers around. I´ve never been
disappointed by any of their wines, and this one´s no exception. Drink it
over the next five years. We have a limited supply of other single-vineyard
wines from this producer.
