2001 Kilikanoon McLaren Vale Shiraz "Parable"
For some reason, I tend to really appreciate McLaren Vale Shiraz over its more
popular cousin from the Barossa; possibly because the vale´s slightly cooler
climate results in a wine with more structure and finesse, things that I value in
wine. This highly sought after producer´s Parable Shiraz is their
top-of-the-line, combining that structure with a great deal of power. It´s
$30.00.
2002 Francois Chidaine Vouvray Moelleux
2002 was a phenomenal vintage for Vouvray (and most of the Loire Valley; the
Sancerres are spectacular!), and this one comes from a producer with access to some
of the finest vineyard land in the appellation. No surprise that every wine
I´ve tried from Chidaine has knocked me out. Yes, this is a late-harvest
sweet wine. Yes, it´s amazing now. Take a chance; age it for ten or
fifteen years. It´s character will totally change; Chenin Blanc is one of
the most underrated grapes for aging. It´s $19.75.
