March 2005 Specialty Club
2002 Glaetzer Barossa Valley Shiraz
Yep, that´s right - the Glaetzer Shiraz that Parker gave 95
points to. I know I´m not exactly someone who´s big
on high-scoring wines (nor someone who´s big on ending
sentences with prepositions), but exceptions must be made. This
wine is made from vines that average 100 years of age, and appear to
be doing rather well for themselves! I´d give this wine
another couple years to mature, then prepare yourself for a knockout
wine - this is a true powerhouse, one of the best in the Barossa.
It´s $55.00, and there´s a tiny bit left.
2002 Domaine Schoffit Grand Cru Sommerberg
Riesling
I love Riesling. Can´t help it. I find that
there´s very few wines of any type that cellar better and
deliver more bang for the buck than one of the great ones - and
that´s what this Alsatian example most certainly is.
It´s a wine that will certainly cellar for at least ten years,
although I´ve never actually had a top Riesling go bad yet.
A great producer, a great vineyard, a great grape - a great
combination. It´s $45.00, and it´s all gone.
