January 2006 Specialty Club
2003 Bergevin Lane Vineyards Intuition Reserve Red Wine
Now this is a fun wine. When I first met Amber Lane of Bergevin
Lane Vineyards some years ago, she told me that their plan was to release a reserve wine
only when the wine warranted it; they wouldn´t have one just to fill out their
portfolio. A woman of her word, this is their first reserve release, and it´s worthy
of the name. Winemaker Virginie Bourgue crafted an excellent, balanced blend of
Columbia Valley fruit for this red wine, and it will hold well in your cellar for another
five years, although it drinks well now. There´s some left at $39.75.
22004 Didier Dagueneau Blanc Fume de Pouilly
I admit it. I´m in love with this man´s wines. M.
Dagueneau´s version of Sauvignon Blanc might be the most intense in the world. I had
the privilege of touring his vineyards some years back (pictures on our website), and I
know the devotion to excellence that dominate his winemaking first-hand. This wine
needs time to grow into its maturity - at least four or five years - and will probably be
good for at least another five, although I won´t be able to keep my hands off my bottles
that long. It´s $57.25, and we have a bit more - temporarily. We also have a
small stock of his intensely flavored dessert wine from the Jurancon, "Les Jardins
de Babylone" at $121.50 for a 500 ml bottle.
Our wine classes still have room available! They´re held on Thursdays at 7:30
PM, starting January 19th with a Basic Tasting Class, followed on the 26th with a Spain
and Portugal Seminar. February 2nd will see a Germany/Austria class, the 9th an
Italian class, and the 16th a French class. All classes are $35.00, with discounts
for multiple classes or for club memberships. Hope to see you there!
