2004 Leonetti Merlot
OK, be honest - isn´t this wine one of the reasons you joined a club like this?  It´s definitely one of the reasons I got into wine.   It´s unquestionably Washington State´s flagship Merlot, and has been for many, many years - almost thirty years since Gary Figgins started Leonetti Cellars.   This wine is made in a much leaner style than past vintages, and will hold beautifully for 3-5 years prior to consuming this.  My wife once paired an earlier version of this with a venison in blueberry sauce dish for friends of ours from Lyon, and we had the pleasure of watching their stunned looks as they realized just how good Washington wine could be.  It´s $69.75, and there is a small amount left over.

2004 Clos Marie Manon
This wine from the Pic Saint Loup region of Languedoc knocked us out at a tasting, all the more remarkable for it being the wine that followed the Dagueneau Pouilly-Fumes in the tasting!  Winemaker Christophe Peyrus farms his vineyards biodynamically, and no pesticides or herbicides have ever been used on the land.  This wine is named after M. Peyrus´ daughter, and is made from Grenache Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Bourbolenc, and other white grapes of the region.  To add a personal connection to this wine, shortly after tasting this wine (with the winemaker,) I received an email from my friends in Lyon, asking if I had met their best friend´s son, who was a winemaker and was in Seattle on business.   Guess who it was!  It´s a very small world...  Have this wine over the next few years with soft cheese dishes.  It is $$25.00, and there is some left.
