Washington Wine of the Month March, 2004

2001 Colvin L´Etoile d´Hiver
When Tom and I visited Mark Colvin this past November, he proudly showed us this wine, of which he made one barrel (25 cases), mostly sold out of the winery.   He claimed that when he turned out the lights of the winery, this barrel glowed.  As did we when we tried it.  It´s spectacular, and will get nothing but better with some bottle age.  For once, I´m not going to recommend food with this.  Just enjoy it by itself - but not by yourself!

2001 Buty Rediviva of the Stones
Funny how wines from Caleb Foster seem to continually show up in this club.  He started out strong, and just keeps getting better.  This Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon blend is sumptuous.  We tried both components of this wine in barrel, where the Syrah was one of the best we tried, and the Cabernet right up there.   Blending only made them stronger.  There is a reasonable amount of this available at $35.00, but don´t delay.  It´ll hold for up to eight years in your cellar, and go wonderfully with game.
