May 2004 Washington Wine Club
2002 Isenhower Cellars Three Dogs Cabernet Sauvignon
It´s always nice to offer wines from friends, and Brett and Denise Isenhower
have definitely been friends to this shop! Since their first vintage, their
wines have been outstanding - and, unusual for Washington, somewhat understated.
This wine isn´t a whole lot different from their regular Cabernet
release, except for the label. Visitors to their winery will no doubt be
familiar with the culprits depicted on the bottle, as they effectively function as
the greeting staff! Brett decided to honor his four-legged friends in this
winery-only release. Of course, what´s in the bottle is outstanding as
well. It´s $19.75 and ready to drink.
2002 Owen Roe DuBrul Vineyard Merlot
Wow. That´s the first adjective that crosses my mind for this wine.
Winemaker David O´Reilly has managed what I´d have considered the
impossible: making a powerful wine with great finesse. And he does it on a
regular basis, as does his partner in wine at Sineann, Peter Rosback. Rich and
smooth, this wine will continue to mature for another two or three years, and hold
for another four - if you can keep your hands off it. I doubt that I´ll
be able to accomplish that... it´s $45.00, and, naturally, gone. David
let me know that his perennial best-selling Abbot´s Table Red will be a bit
late this year, probably July or August. He also let me know the reason, which
is that the Zinfandel for the blend is STILL FERMENTING! Scary. We will
start a signup list for it about mid-May.
