July 2006 Washington Wine Club
K Vintners "The Creator" and "The
Boy"
Once again, winemaker Charles Smith performs a clean sweep on
the club with these two spectacular wines - as long as you can get past the label on
The Creator! As usual, both wines are rich and luscious, with powerful fruit
and great expression of the vineyard´s terrior. The 2003 Boy, which in the
past has been a tempranillo blend, is this year a blend of 68% Grenache, 18% Syrah,
and 14% Mourvedre, all from Walla Walla Valley. There is a small amount left
at $35.00, cheap for what you get. The 2003 Creator, a blend of 60% Cabernet
Sauvignon from Christophe Baron´s En Cerise Vineyard and 40% Syrah from the
famed Seven Hills Vineyard, is also quite a mouthful. There´s a small amount
left for $45.00. Either of these wines would go well with rich, dark foods -
steak, rib roasts and the like. They are excellent now, and will hold well for
another five years. Enjoy!
