August 2006 Washington Wine Club
2004 Alexandria Nicole Grenache
We´ve got a couple Grenaches in this month´s club.
It´s becoming more common in this state, and, based on the evidence at hand,
we´re doing a good job with it. This comes from Alexandria Nicole´s estate
vineyard, Destiny Ridge, in the Horse Heaven Hills. There´s only 96 cases made,
and we have more of ‘em available at $29.75.
2004 Animale Grenache
Ballard´s leading winemaker Matt Gubitosa has made a lovely,
lightly oaked Grenache here. He made it in ridiculously small quantities again.
This one goes for $22.00, and there might be a tiny amount left. It´s ready to
drink, although it´ll hold another five years.
2005 College Cellars Lemberger Carbonique
Carbonic Maceration is the name for the fermentation process that
Beaujolais Nouveau goes through to achieve that fresh, fruity style, and Walla Walla
Community College´s winemaking program experimented with it with the Lemberger
grape, quite successfully. Winemaker Stan Clarke was quite happy with this last I
talked to him. We have a tiny amount more at $13.50. As with Beaujolais Nouveau,
it´s ready to drink - now. Enjoy!
